The Roman Hinterland Project: Integrating Archaeological Field Surveys around Rome and Beyond

This article presents the background to and prospects for a new initiative in archaeological field survey database integration. The Roman Hinterland Project combines data from Tiber Valley Project, Suburbium Pontine Region into single database, which authors believe be one of most complete repositories hinterland major ancient metropolis, covering nearly 2000 years history. logic combining these databases context studying landscape is explained illustrated with analyses that show their capacity contribute debates economy, demography, longue durée human condition globalizing world.
